There’s lots going on this month…breast cancer awareness, football
and especially one of our favorite chocolate holidays-Halloween!

"The Fur Ball" by Project Pet October 13. Tickets also available

Proceeds from the Fur Ball will assist Project Pet in building a
regional adoption and outreach Center as well as support ongoing
lifesaving efforts of pets.

October 2007 Recipes
Chicks Love Chocolate® Football
Party Mix

An easy game-day recipe, ready in minutes! A guaranteed winner!
¾ cups packed brown sugar
6 Tbsp butter or margarine
3 Tbsp light corn syrup
¼ tsp baking soda
1 cup mini pretzels
¾ cup honey roasted peanuts
3 cups corn cereal squares
3 cups rice cereal squares
¾ cup milk chocolate chips, melted
Melt the first three ingredients together in the microwave for 1
minute. Add baking soda and stir until dissolved. Stir in pretzels,
nuts, and cereals. Microwave mixture again for 3 minutes, stirring every
minute. Line baking sheet with wax paper and spread mixture out on top,
allowing cooling for 10 minutes. Drizzle with melted chocolate and
refrigerate for 3-5 minutes until the chocolate is set. Break mix into
pieces and place in bowl to serve.
Yields approximately 8 cups.
Chicks Love Chocolate® Oktoberfest
Chili
A great addition to our fall recipe collection with just a hint of
cocoa! (Your secret ingredient)
You will need:

1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 pound ground chuck or ground round beef (may be omitted if you like
vegetarian style)
2-3 small onions chopped
1 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp ground cumin
½ tsp cayenne pepper
2 medium green bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic chopped fine
3 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
1 can tomatoes (28 ounces), undrained
1 cup water
1 can black beans (14 ounces), drained and rinsed
1 can kidney beans (14 ounces), drained and rinsed
2 cups fresh or frozen whole kernel corn
Directions:
In a large heavy saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add ground beef
and sauté until browned. Add onions, chili powder, cumin and cayenne
pepper. Sauté for 5 minutes or until onions are tender, stirring
occasionally. Add green peppers and garlic, sauté for a few minutes. Add
cocoa, tomatoes, and water, and then bring to a boil. Add kidney beans,
black beans and corn. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 15-25
minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with tortilla chips and
sour cream or plain yogurt and chives.

Chicks Love Chocolate® Halloween
Hot Cocoa
Creamy and calming for a night of scary movie watching!
Place all ingredients in a crock pot or medium saucepan:
½ cup sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup of hot water
4 cups whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract, pure
Simmer over low heat, stirring gently until desired hotness.
Serve with marshmallow fluff or whipped cream!
